How Eco- Retrofit Technology may help you to Save Power Consumption?

Eco retrofit

Energy efficiency is very essential today and so lighting Retrofits technology is gaining ground as the simplest energy solution with the highest potential to reduce carbon footprints and restore our planet to the green, pollution-free state as it used to be earlier.

A modern living may not make it feasible to reduce energy consumption, especially in the commercial facilities and office buildings. They need to be fully lit most of the times and even during daytime. However, simply retrofitting the lights in a building can bring about a world of difference in our lives as well as that of our environment.

Lighting Retrofits technology helps achieve environmental synergy through energy-efficient lighting fixtures installed at commercial centers, buildings and homes. The ordinary bulbs and light fixtures consume a huge load of electric energy that is roughly, three times the energy consumed by air conditioning units. For every $100 that homeowners pay towards electricity, a wiser investment can be made in lightning up the home with Eco Retrofits technology, thus reducing utility bills up to $60, and keeping aside the remaining $40 for later retrofits or other LED solutions.

Within the next twenty years, if all buildings in the United States are upgraded with Lighting Retrofits technology, the surging demand in lighting electricity can be reduced by as much as 33 percent, generating energy savings of around $265 billion.

In the United States, eco-friendly companies that have expertise in the energy smart industry, offer innovative retrofit lighting service for homes, commercial complex and other buildings, ensuring guaranteed energy cost savings and unbelievable positive cash flows. Also, free energy audits are conducted by such companies as a part of their retrofit program as it helps them to find how much energy is being wasted and how much energy can be saved by making a building eco-friendly.

How Passivhuas Construction is going to benefit you?

Passivhaus construction

An increase in pollution has troubled our life and so people are finding great ways to save the environment and their life. Gradually, there is a great demand of energy efficient homes. So, even the architects are focusing on bringing new ideas of passivhausconstruction that use better insulation and high efficiency appliances.

But before making the building as energy efficient, it is essential to follow certain criteria and requirements. The building is said to be a passive house, it needs to fulfil certain requirements. For instance, a house is only called passivhaus when the annual energy need or demand of the house should not be more than 15KWh. However, building a passive home is a costly affair due to its energy efficiency, but the long-term benefits of the passive homes can make it the most beautiful choice.

The windows of the passive houses can also play an important role in controlling and adjusting the temperature of a room. The passive windows minimize and maximize the solar energy itself as per the needs. To get an advantage of passive windows, they need to be adjusted in a manner that can ensure maximum solar gain. If you really want to gain the actual advantage of the passive windows, make sure that it is manufactured with high R-values energy efficient insulator like Aerogel that helps to meet the necessities of a passive house standard.

Along with controlling the room temperature, the passive house also ensures flow of fresh air into the room. This brings a positive effect in the room environment of a home.

In addition to these, the passive homes have also another benefits as they are quite eco-friendly and makes the temperature normal in all the weather conditions.

Passive House – An Environmentally Friendly Building

Passive house construction
Are you a person that cares for the environment? If so, you must be interested in knowing about an environment friendly home. Many people might not be aware of passive house and its benefit. Neither little do they know about the effect it has on the environment. The fact is passive house creates a greener living options for us.
An ordinary house consumes energy and releases a little bit of heat. While a passive house collects the radiant heat and repurposes it to keep the home warm inside. This special designed house uses airtight shell, insulation, air filter system, vent system and selective windows. These factors creates comfortable environment without much use of the electricity.
The passive house construction was invented in Europe about 10 years ago. After finding success in providing energy efficient home, these techniques were used in many buildings in different countries in Europe. The passive house helps in keeping the environment safe. The high quality air filter used in these houses produces best indoor air quality without sending the filtered air waste out to the environment. Thus, protects the air from pollution.
There are few factors for making a home energy efficient or qualify for calling “passive” home. Firstly, the home must have an airtight shell so that heating and cooling that is happening inside remains inside. The home should have high quality insulation layer installed to keep the energy and heat inside. The passive house should employ vent system meant for filtering and collecting heat emissions which electronics installed house produces. And lastly, the windows of the houses should be specially design and set up so that it can take full advantage of the solar heat for heating the home naturally.

Importance of Enerphit Standard in Passivhaus Refurbishing Constructions

Enerphit

The usage of Passive House components in the refurbishment of any existing building brings many extensive improvements like thermal comfort, economic efficiency, absence of structural damage and climate protection. Such projects have caused a great reduction in the heat energy demand and have achieved this objective by 90%.

Achieving the Passive House Standard in refurbishing the existing buildings is not a realistic goal. Reason being, the basement walls are remained avoidable thermal bridges even after refurbishment. To attain such refurbishing, Passivhaus Institute has established EnerPHit for certified energy retrofits with Passive House Components. This certification needs a maximum heating demand of 25 kWh/(m²a) or alternatively the consistent use of Passive House components in accordance with the requirements for PHI certification of components. PHPP calculates the heating demand and the quality of the thermal protection.

If the certification criteria for a Passivhaus are met while refurbishing, then the building can be certified for a "Quality-Approved Passive House" based on the same criteria as for new buildings.

However, sometimes it is really difficult to achieve the Passivhaus standard for older buildings with reasonable effort. The use of Passivhaus technology for all relevant building components in existing buildings does lead to considerable improvement in respect of thermal comfort, structural protection, cost-effectiveness and energy requirements.

Those buildings that have been refurbished using Passivhaus components and largely with exterior wall insulation can be certified to the EnerPHit standard as a proof of quality assurance and to obtain the specific energy values.

The designation EnerPHit+i is used if more than 25 % of the opaque exterior wall surface has interior insulation. It will be likely that moisture analysis will be needed where opaque elements are insulated internally.

Here is the standard relaxed certification criteria indicated below for Passivhaus Construction under Enerphit standard:

Criteria                                  Passivhaus                          EnerPHit

Specific Heat Demand        ≤ 15 kWh/m².yr                  ≤ 25 kWh/m².yr

Primary Energy Demand    ≤ 120 kWh/m².yr               ≤ 120 kWh/m².yr *

Limiting Value                        n50 ≤0.6-1                        n50 ≤1.0-1

* PE ≤ 120 kWh/m².yr + ((SHD - 15 kWh/ m².yr) x1.2)
